"?? About engine problems with new holland 3930's

I was talking to this guy who works on and restores tractors and I mentioned to him that I have a new holland 3930. He asked me what year it was and I told him it was a 1999 model with about 800 hours on it.

He immediately said that I better watch out and if I hear any strange knocks in the engine that I better shut it down immediately because the later year new holland 3930's had something wrong with the rings, or sleeves or Pistons or something that can cause an engine failure that will require a lot of money to repair. He said if I shut down the engine immediately it will cause less damage and possibly a lower cost to repair.

Does anyone know what he is talking about and whether or not this is true? If there is something to this, is it something that I need to be worried about on a tractor with only 800 hours on it?

I think his advice is correct for any engine, but I wouldn't think a 800 hour 3930 should have an issue.

Actually, if there was a real wide-spread major issue with certain years of NH, I'm quite certain we'd find it here. I didn't find anything that could fit that description (and rather a sloppy description it was!)

What has been the maintenance routine and use of the tractor? Engine oil, hydro fluid and all filters changed regularly based on manufacturer's specs. Any running issues with the tractor? Any symptons of an upcoming failure?

If you are really worried about it, why not call a couple NH dealers" service departments and see if they can tell you anything about any known engine issues for that year and model?
