Haha, yes I'm sure....that would actually be great to be honest. It just crushes our business when snow starts flying in places like rural W. KY. People will not get out unless their kids or their grandparents are just really acutely ill. Ongoing management of chronic illnesses will get rescheduled....we have already lost 2 days for closure and about 1/2 scheduling due to rural roads etc. being difficult for people to travel in.

Hi rustyiron straight salt will freeze. if it has any moisture or get wet we run straight salt in MA with liquid cal 10 gallon per ton 480 pounds per road mile. Its my winter job.

I've been wondering how much the town/state uses. According to your formula* I would only need 20# to cover my driveway at the same rate, but I use 40# and even at that it's not nearly effective as the town. It's long been my theory that the traffic on the road grinds up the salt and spreads it out more. Also, the road surface is a lot smoother from being constantly driven on, whereas my driveway has a pretty "rough" surface from the aggregate. This allows the salt water to stay in the "valleys" rather than covering the entire surface.

*based on a 20' wide road.

I def think the traffic has a lot to do with it plus the highway department usually pre treats don't they?

No pretreatment in our township, and not by the State either AFAIK. There are/were a few towns that laid salt or equivalent down before or at the start of the storm but it seems to be less popular around here now. Pre-treatment makes driving IN the storms terrible, but the roads sure clean up a lot faster.

Around here they will pre-treat with liquid on the interstates and other high-traffic roads. Smaller roads not so much.

That's a nice set up. I think you will come to appreciate how easy the plow is to remove and put on. As well as how efficient having the V is for cleaning up your lot.

Thank you...I was pleasantly surprised at the 30 second on and off. This is my daily driver truck so that was a very important feature to me.

The spreader on and off feature is very slick as well.
