Well its been a long week. I was supposed to meet with the vet the next morning at our house and he did not show. I called him and he said he had an emergency so I could meet him at his office at 5:30 that evening. I loaded Sage up and my wife and I go to town. When we get there his receptionist was there and told me to put the dog in a cage in a back room and that the vet would put her down in the morning. I asked where the vet was and she said he was in the country on some calls. My wife and I could not leave her there to die alone, so we brought her home. We tried calling other vets but they all told us that they would do it in the morning. She got to the point where she was losing a lot of flood through her rectum and she smelled like she was rotting, then the pain kicked in. She began to howl with pain. We talked and decided to put her down ourselves. We all went back outside gave her a few pets said our good byes and my wife and son went back in. I told Sage that I loved her and then I put a 22 pistol behind her ear and stopped the suffering. We buried her the next morning on the hill side where she liked to lay. Seems weird to save her from death so I could kill her 16 years later. Everyone says I did the right thing but I have never felt so low in my life as I do now.
