Kubota B7800
Hi folks, I'm about to purchase a B7800 and had one area of contention. The dealer said the a 60in MMM would be better than the 72in MMM.
He really didn't go into detail other than mentioning that he does sell many 72 in MMM. But I've got to thinking over the weekend, My end result is to try to save some time on the mowing, as the prime reason for the tractor is mower then FEL work and tilling.

I have 6.5 acres with about 1/2 flat long straight runs with no real obsticles, and some medium hills which I can do in up/down runs (with some trees).

I wanted to get the opinions from the folks who do this stuff everyday.

Thanks in advance.

I have the 72" for my B2910 (same tractor with extra features) I like how well it cuts. The 72" has 4 caster wheels. One at each corner plus anti scalp rollers in the middle. It does a good job of cutting my 2 acres. Takes less than 1 hour to cut in mid-range and PTO speed.
The 4 casters make it easy to move the mower when removing mower if you have a flat hard surface to remove mower.

I have a B7500 with a 60" MMM ,and a FEL which works great when putting on or taking off the MMM.I just drive up to the MMM and lower my bucket over the front of the MMM and lift the tractor up and just slide the MMM under and lower the tractor. It takes about 10 min. to do and then just remove the FEL,(2 min.) and your mowing. It can be done without the FEL but it would probally be more difficult unless on a smooth level surface.I can do mine in the yard or wherever I am.

The dealer may have a 60" in stock that he needs to sell - been taking up space for too long! There are many reasons for dealers to recommend certain implements. It wouldn't be the first time it as been reported here on TBN that something was recommended due to the dealer wanting to help himself as much as you :(

diesel_power,

The dealer said the a 60in MMM would be better than the 72in MMM.
It depends. It's true that the 60" is nearly "scalp-proof" on uneven land. If you want a bagger later you can (you can't with a 72"). But, the 72" is better to reduce time needed for mowing and is better to go around obstacles (6" wider on both sides than a 60"). IMHO, the quality of the cut is exactly the same: pretty good. Again, IMHO, the price difference between a 60" and a 72" (300$ I think) shouldn't be a decisive point here. What should be is the size of the land to mow and the relief of it.

I have 6.5 acres with about 1/2 flat long straight runs with no real obsticles, and some medium hills which I can do in up/down runs (with some trees).
Hmmm... In your case, a 72" might be a good choice. I opted for a 60" because of the size and relief of my land and to keep my options opened to add a bagger if needed.

BTW, welcome to TBN.

Thanks for all the good info, I think I'm going to super-size to the 72 in deck.
As I suspected the 72 cuts just as good as the 60. Most of the land is fairly smooth except for one rough field, which I'm not to concerned about quality of cut.

I don't think the dealer was really trying to down sell me to get rid of a certain type of stock. (He had plenty, plus at least on of every type model tractor) I just don't think he understood my land layout. (???)

Well, if all goes well tomorrow, I should have the tractor by the weekend. I'll be like a kid in a candy store until then.

Regards,
Frank
