when stopped waiting at a light leave enough space between you and the car ahead of you so that you can escape

The "rule of thumb" I've always used, and taught my wife and kids when they were learning to drive, is to stop far enough back that you can see where the rubber meets the road on the rear tires of the vehicle in front of you.

And, yes, it's a very good common sense rule to keep your front wheels pointed straight ahead while waiting to turn left. It's something that's been taught for years, but apparently a lot of people either don't know it or have forgotten it.

I still can't get over how many people don't have any problem stopping their cars on a railroad track./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

This was not an employee of mine

Doesn't really matter Dozernut. He was a person and he died and that's a terrible thing. I can't imagine being his family waiting for him to come home for dinner...

Yet another... a man in my area[Greensboro/Winston-Salem, NC] was mowing along a creekbank yesterday when his tire hit a soft spot in the bank, sending him into the creek with the tractor landing on top.
He was 71, and had been driving tractors for many years. Be careful guys!
