Buddy of mine is disking food plots this weekend with my tractor. He told me that he accidentally drove the tractor some with the parking brake engaged.

What damage is this likely to have done to my tractor, and if there was damage, what parts might need to be fixed or replaced? Thanks

Probably worn brake pads and a lot of extra fuel.I think we all have done this at one time or another.

Not with a Deere 5000 series ... The park brake is built-into the shift lever. You have to dis-engage the parking brake to get into gear. A superior feature that I wish all tractors had. I've driven my Deere backhoe with the park brake on ...

As mentioned, probably no damage. Check to make sure the brakes still work. If they do, don't worry about it.

I would think that if he couldn't tell the brakes were on, then the parking brake was just lightly set and not much wear would have been encountered. At most you may have to adjust the brake a bit to allow for the minor wear so that it still engages max. I have done that with my Kubota RTV once or twice when I just lightly set the brake on a hill and drove it 200 yards before trying to climb a hill and wondered why it was stalling so bad. NOW whenever I set the brake, I set it hard so it wont move when in gear. I do the same thing with my tractor when I use the parking brake (which is infrequent-I prefer to lower the FEL and use that as a brake)even though it does have a bright red brake light staring at you.

Thanks guys, I was hoping it would not be a big deal. I agree about the warning light, however my warning light is located in a poorly designed location and is not easily visible unless the steering wheel is tilted all the way down.

I just finished moving a stump I'd dug up and was coming back up to house - maybe 150 yards total. I couldn't figure out why in the heck my B3300SU was bogging down so badly. Almost back to the house when I finally realized the brake was on! Duh! Something smelled a little warm! Hopefully no damage done but I'm not feeling too smart right now! The brakes certainly still work but I undoubtedly took some life off of them!

I think you'd find that more people than not have done that exact same thing...shouldn't be anything to worry about;-)
