I bought a small 12v winch from tractor supply co. The winch came with 50ft of steel cable.

I want to use the winch to pull some tree rounds out of a ravine. Ideally, I'd like to add 25-30' of line. Has anyone added line to an inexpensive winch?

Here's a link to the winch I bought.

really not practical due to the drum size.

Best thing to do is to get a stand alone section of cable with loops. attach it to your item run out the winch cable to the end of the dead cable, winch in the drum cable, remove the dead cable, and pull the drum cable for a second pull.

Generally the amount of line is the max for that spool. To much line and you can jump the spool or bury the line in the wraps then back spool and you will have kinks and weaken the cable. I would suggest getting the additional length you need in chain and using that to haul the rounds out. Just put hooks on either end of the chain

Doing the double pull will work for sure. Speeds not all that important, getting the wood out is. I suspected that it would be hard to splice more line onto the winch but it never hurts to ask.

Thanks for the suggestions & advice.
