Looking to get a 9" hydraulic auger, only problem is my 4540 didnt come with a 3rd function or rear remotes. I talked to the guys over at EA and he said I should go with rear remotes. The WR Long kit they sell is not designed for auger use.

What are my options here? If I buy the kit (dealer wants $1300) - is it fairly easy to install? anyone have any pictures, etc?

Hi, not sure if it's applicable to your situation but I built my own rear remotes with components purchased from a local hydraulics company for about $400. Valve, hoses, fittings.

The biggest challenge was fabricating a proper mount for the valve that was out of the way of the 3pt hitch and any implement because the tractor is so small, there's not much room for anything back there.

There are others here who have built excellent rear remote systems, Mine is just basic, one valve, two directions of flow.

Do you have pics/parts list by chance? I've been reading online and here all morning to try to see if I can piece together my own system, but I'm still a bit lost.

***EDIT: I found this kit that looks like it might work.
Electro-hydraulic Third Function Tractor Kit

How can I tell if it's OK for auger use?

The reason the WR Long kit isn’t designed for auger use is because of flow , the constant on type of use or the fact it doesn’t reverse flow. I’m guessing it’s the last one since EA/WR Long kit is a nice one.

Finding some budget kit online doesn’t make for a nice hydraulic auger. Get a nice valve that will run the hydraulic motor properly.

So what is a "nice valve" - brands, specs, certain functionality? And how do I know what will "run the hydraulic motor properly" - is it dependent on flow, sizing, auger ratio? I *thought* I'd found 2 different kits (EA and Baileys) but apparently neither are correct for what I'm trying to do.

***EDIT: If it helps, after talking with the guys at EA, this is the auger I'm looking at now...

I would check the specs on the auger first(GPM) Remember tractor work pumps are usually pretty low(6 to 8 GPM) Have you considered a PTO driven auger?

Yes... everything I've read, people hate them. FEL hydraulic seems to be the way to go.

The 4540 is rated at 11gpm according to Mahindra. 8.7 for accessories and 5 for steering. The X975 I linked to up above should be OK unless I'm missing something.

i've put in many a hole with a pto auger, 15", and other than one hole with a rock and breaking a few pins on that, and twice (out of 60 some holes) have to back it out (easy to do -big pipe wrench works, unscrew a turn maybe 2 and that's all you need).

$600 some dollars at tractor supply.

So far $10/hole...LOL

I’d call these guys direct and ask. I’ve talked to them and they were very helpful.

Btw- I looked at the hydraulic motor. I think most 3rd function kits will do forward and reverse. So the reason they don’t like their kit running an auger is either flow/heat or the solenoid in the valve doesn’t like the prolonged open/on.
