Oh boy....I'm starting to get overwhelmed......

Na, your doin' fine bro...Just stay on track with me:thumbsup:

I forgot to add to the above reply that you can always add the needle valves later if you think you need them-like if the grapple moves to fast.

Thanks guys. I'm sure I'll learn a whole heck of a lot in the process.

Here is my situation. I'm away from home for the next 2 and a half weeks which of course is where the tractor is, so I can't do anything until then. SO what I'm trying to do is learn as much as I can so when I get home I can get to work on adding hydraulics. I want to figure out (with all you guys help of course) exactly WHAT I need and exactly HOW to do it. So far I think I have the valve all set, I'll buy the one previously posted, the 14gpm one.

I'm going to do it in two steps like Kennyd suggested. I'll buy the all the parts except the fittings and hoses, then mount the fittings and measure off everything I need, and order the hoses and connectors.

So far I can check the valve off the list. I guess now that I think about it there really aren't all that many parts when you don't count the hoses and connections?

So lets see, what will I need for the electric over hydraulic solenoid setup for the grapple? I think I'll go that route and plumb in a needle valve (wow I'm using all these technical terms now eh? :D)

I'm not sure if I'll attempt to do that part of it myself or just spring for the WR Long setup. Does anyone know offhand a rough price of the kit? I think I remember reading around $500 but I'm not positive. Seems they include everything I need and that would nice.

The WR long kit will probably be closer to $600-$650.

Here is a solenoid valve: Surplus Center - 12 VDC 10 GPM OC DA SOLENOID VALVE
Note that you would also need the subplate and 2 of the special electric connectors.

Starting at post #24 in this thread from Rob (3RRL) there is great info on them in detail: My very own grapples! - TractorByNet.com

Keep searching threads in the Hydraulics forum since you have time...everything we have discussed has all been gone over many times before;)

I'd speculate on $550 - 600 For the W R Long kit ( + $100 for the bulkhead kit if you so choose). You can certainly put the elec/hydraulic set-up together yourself for a little less, but the W R Long kit comes complete and ready to install. Like anything else...... depends on what your time is worth to you.

I posted my recent 3rd function valve experience over in the Kubota Owning/Operating forum. You may or may not find it useful.

Good luck,
Jay

I did find your thread and found it extremely useful, thanks for posting it. I'll also read through it again as I find that each time I reread some old threads I notice/remember something I didn't see before.
Thanks again
