Hi all,

I am considering a BX tractor. I am pretty limited on pricing and trying to keep my initial expenditure low.

I was wondering.....

How hard (and costly) would it be to add a FEL to a BX? I can't afford one now, but I could put one to use. I was thinking maybe retrofitting down the road?

What would it cost to put bar tires on a BX? Most of the ones I have seen used have turf tires on them and I'd prefer bar tires. I am thinking I would try the turf tired if I purchase one but I'd like to know what it would cost to replace.

I have my eyes on the BX1500 because I think it would do most (if not all) of what I need and can be purchased for a lower price than an 1800 or 2200.

Is the turning radius much tighter on a 1500 than on any of the other or newer models? It seems like they are a little shorter and therefore may have a tighter turn that the bigger ones.

I am also open to other manufacturers but I haven't seen anything in the $5000 price range that can compete.

Sorry if I am asking questions that have been previously run into the ground. I did do a search and came up empty handed.

Thanks

Welcome to TBN...As you probably already know prices vary in different parts of the U.S.....Loader wise, if you're shopping new, you may try Koyker's website and see if they have any info/loaders for the BX...Good luck with the purchase(s).

I expect that if you don't wait too long (years) to add a loader that Kubota would still be able to supply on for the BX series. There might be some cost savings in buying the loader with the tractor, but it's always better to buy what you can afford than overextend your finances. I would ask a good dealer what his opinion was on how long loaders might be available for the tractors you have in mind. Maybe Neil will chime in here.

Since the wheelbase is shorter on the BX1500 I would expect that the turning radius is somewhat smaller. Those measurements that are given in the specs are pretty deceptive though. My old BX22 was supposed to have a turning radius of 7.5 feet I think, and my Simplicity Legacy is supposed to be something under 30". If you turned both on ground that showed the circle created, the circle inside the tire tracks was nearly identical on both. I think one is measured to the outside of the tractor, and one inside the rear tire.

Thanks guys.

I looked at the Koyker website. They make 2 different loaders that they show for the BX series. I am not sure how it would interfere with the MMM. I think I may call a Koyker dealer to scope that option out.

1*A lot of used BXs come with FELs.

2*My BX23 came standard with 4 tires when I bought it new.
Type of tire was my choice.

3*My used BX1500 had turfs so I told the dealer I would take the tractor if he would switch it to AGs in an even exchange.
4*If you get the tractor get it with the AGs you want other wise you will be paying double for 2 sets of tires.
In my opinion AGs are the best choice for these smaller tractors bar none.

This is my new BX1500 I took with Turfs.
I've often considered that perhaps I should have gotten it with AGs instead but to get AGs put on it now after the fact means paying for tires a second time and tires ain't cheap.
5*I believe the BX1500 would probably do about 95 percent or more of what my BX23 can do.
6*I've never experienced at turning radius issue with any of my BXs.
I consider turning radius a non issue trivial matter.
There is no other manufacturer that has a tractor comparable to the BX1500 to compete with it.
7*You must not have used the correct search terms .
There is a lot of info on the board about the BXs .
I know because I posted a lot of it my self as well as many others.

Here is a real good place to look for a tractor.

To answer your question about the tires, the current list price for the complete set of bar tires and wheels would be $294.00 for the BX1500 or current model BX1860. I have customers that have both sets to use for different tasks.

If you are doing alot of mowing, I'd stick with the turf tires. Like you say, try them out, it's not a huge expense to add them latter if you want bars.
