I have a ZTR mower that has the fuel gauge on the tank under the seat. I have to lift the seat just to check the fuel. I woul like to add some type of fuel gauge on the instrument panel. There is plenty of room for one. I haven't been very successful in finding a solution. The tank is plactic. Any help appreciated.

Go to a boat sales place and get one from them. All you need to know is how deep it is. They sell a comp. kit.

That's my bigest concern. If I goof it could mean a new tank.

I think you will have a hard time finding a flat smooth spot on the top of the tank big enough to take the sender flange . Even if you do it's very hard to get the float arm length correct so that it does not foul on the tank and then the ratio is incorrect to work the gauge accurately . I do'nt know if your tractor is a Diesel or not but on my generator set i have a piece of clear tubing attached to the bottom outlet hose via a "T" piece which then goes to the top breather on the tank . This allows me to see the level at a glance . I do'nt think i would try it with Petrol though as it could be hazardous .

If you have the $$ to spend, you can get a capacitive system that measures the fluid levels at specific points. Used to glue them onto large tanks for the low and low-low warning lights.
