Yes, it is designed to "divert" fluid from one circuit to another. You only have control (through a directional control valve-like the loader joystick) of one circuit at a time. It is operated by a simple ON-OFF switch (usually momentary).
The "true 3rd function" is completely independent and can operate a cylinder(s) all by itself through the use of a 3 position switch ON-OFF-ON

Thx, I think I understand now. Using the power beyond you can kurl the bucket and operate the grapple at the same time.
