3-Point Hitch Adjusting 3 PH for 485 Backhoe ?

   / Adjusting 3 PH for 485 Backhoe ? #11
Hello,

First, please ignore my ignorance.

Second, lots of good info here, but could someone post a picture of the left rockshaft arm that has the pushrod and locknut on it that is used to adjust the 3 point hitch? Having trouble with attaching my 485 backhoe to my JD 4120 because the 3pnt hitch is out of adjustment.

thanks,
steve

Steve,
This is for my 3320 but your mechanism should be about the same.

Steve, I have a 4120 also and have been kicking around the idea of buying the BH for it. How well does it work for you? Is the tractor heavy enough to do any serious digging with it? Also, if you don't mind telling me, how much did you pay for your BH?

Hi Burple,
I have the 485 BH on my 3320 which Deere shows as an option for the 3000/4000 series tractors (open cab only on the 3x20 series). I've had smaller hoes on other Deere models and the 485 is quite a beefy hoe. I paid about $8,400.00, maybe a little less if I remember without the tooth bar, so it's not cheap but worth it for what I do.

Hello,

I paid around $8300.00 for my BH. It works great for digging, but it doesn't work well for say digging stumps like a full sized backhoe would. It just doesn't have the power to break roots, but still no regrets buying it !

Steve,
I don't know if you are aware of how to dig roots, so if your do I apologize but the best way is to start pulling up about two or three feet out from the trunk and work inward. My 485 does a pretty good job if I use this method.

Having dug out stumps with a full size Case BH and my JD 485 BH mounted on a JD 4320, I agree 100%, especially stumps greater than 10" in diameter. You can dig out larger stumps with the 485 BH but you'll need a lot more time to do it. Also, I don't think the 485 will last long working stumps day after day. It's great for digging dirt, eg, ditches, post holes, cleaning out gravel bars in streams, and etc.

I agree 100% ! The 485 can do it for sure just takes some time, but better sutted for the tasks you mentioned.

By the way that "thumb" on your 485 is the cats meow ! Steve likes very much :) I bought a 4 in 1 bucket and didn't even think about buying one of those wish I did !
