i didn't know that. guess that makes sense.

here is a picture of the locking tabs that connect the lift link to the lower arm. there is alot of space above, so not sure if this is reversible so that the lower arms sit 1" higher.

i have the top link in the center postion.

looking at the tractor from a distance, it doesn't look too bad height wise, but it's only 16" off the ground.

Why would you want to raise the box blade any higher? All that would do is raise your CoG.

my old ford 600 lifted REALLY high, and there were times when it was convenient for it to do so. even tho it lifted higher (maybe 24"), i didn't carry it that way for travel.

when i was first using the blade on the 4300, it was quite low, then i adjusted the lift links to their minimum length and it actually raised the max height a decent amount. as you can see in the picture, it is not bad now, but there are times in the past (on the ford) i needed it higher than 16".

it's the 4300 from Z&M.

Aha!! So you bought that tractor!! Good for you!
I see Z&M or you put industrial tires on the front.

I'm going to Buffalo in a week or three. Guess you saved me a trip to Z&M!

they shipped it from one store to another one closer to me so i could check it out. when i got there, the correct fronts were on it. i asked about them having the incorrect ones in the ad, they gave me a reasonable (tho who knows how true) explanation, and after driving it around for close to an hr, found no obvious problems w/ the front end. the repair work done to the reverser was just some lever work, nothing internal.

the main problems are cosmetic....cracked hood, bad seat, and today i noticed the front mount tabs on the upper cowls (between hood and dash) are broken. i opened the hood and it bound against the cowls. it never bound up before, but i didn't do anything that would cause it to break. so it was probably already broke, i just never noticed. nothing major. not sure if the intake heater works, so that's something i need to check into before winter....find out if it works, fix it or add a better heating system.

runs and drives real nice, moved a bit of dirt w/ it this wkend to test it out.

You might want to check that the 3pt valve linkage is adjusted properly. Mine seemed to carry the BB low, so I checked and the 3pt was out of spec.

After adjusting to the factory spec, I'm happy with the max height. It took all of five minutes. I can post the procedure and specs it you like (I don't have the manual with me right now).

This is all I did:
ROCKSHAFT POSITION FEEDBACK
LINKAGE ADJUSTMENT
Reason:
To ensure that draft arms raise to maximum lift height
without engaging relief valve.
Procedure:
1. Position tractor on a level surface and set park
brake.
2. Shift transmission to NEUTRAL.
3. Position lift control lever in the full forward (down)
position and provide enough weight on lift arms to
allow self lowering.
4. Start engine.
5. Move lift control lever to full raise position (back).
NOTE: Make sure the PTO shield is in place, and is in
good condition before performing adjustment.
Make sure rubber bumper (A) is in place on
PTO shield.
6. Using a tape measure, measure from the top of the
PTO shield (B) to the center of the pin (C) in end of
lift arm. Lift arm should raise to 350ア3 mm
(13.8ア0.12 in.) as shown, without engaging the
relief valve. Check that there is 25.4 mm (1 in.) of
slack above the vertical height.
7. If specification is not met, lengthen the lift arm
position feedback rod (D) to increase, or shorten to
reduce the maximum height until within
specification. The relief valve should not engage.

You can also check this:

LIFT ARMS ADJUSTMENT
Reason:
To ensure that lift arms are operating through the
correct range of motion.
Procedure:
1. Park tractor on a level surface and set park brake.
2. Shift transmission to NEUTRAL.
3. Start engine and use hydraulics to rotate rockshaft
to full UP position.
4. Using angle gage, check lift arms against
specifications. If not correct, remove lift arm and
reset. (See "ROCKSHAFT DISASSEMBLY AND
ASSEMBLY").
5. Compare angle of second lift arm with first, they
should be within 5ー of each other. If not, reset lift
arms on splines and/or replace rockshaft. (See
"ROCKSHAFT DISASSEMBLY AND
ASSEMBLY").
Specifications:
Lift Arm Raise Angle . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .50ー
Lift Arm Lower Angle. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .20ー
Total Lift Arm Range . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .70ー
Maximum Variance Between Lift Arms . . . . . . . . .5ー

hey thanks alot.

from the sounds of it, resetting the arm angle means to remove the arm and rotate on the splined shaft.

i will look into these when it starts to warm up again...went from 55/sun to 40/rain.

this is from the service manual? i was going to look into getting one, but have had bad experience w/ ford truck manuals on CD. the pictures and diagrams were horrible, and the navigation was not good either. if it is from the service manual (and you have it on CD), could you post/email me examples of wiring schematics, pictures/diagrams so i can preview it?

thanks again.

Yeah, this is from the Service Manual. I've used BMW, Ford, and VW manuals in the past and the JD manual is really good.

Let me know what you need. It's pretty portable- a single .pdf for the 4200/4300/4400. Other models are on the same CD.
