I didn't take the centering springs off of the spools. I wasn't sure how it was done, but it almost seems like there is a super small (6mm??) nut that holds the spring and cups to the spool. It looked pretty rusted on, and I was afraid that if I put too much torque to it, it's snap the threaded portion off instead of unscrewing the nut. Seems to work fine as it is now, but I don't think I like the finished product. I also don't like that the input lines inside the valve look like they are rusting away.
