I am trying to get the MMM control height knob on my 2320 correctly adjusted so that it can be used to lock up the MMM with little drop and control the cutting height as designed..

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/.../176877-2320-mower-height-selection-knob.html

After adjusting the connecter from the MMM hitch to the 3pt, I am still need about 1/8" more height so that the cam will turn completely and miss the 'ear'.. I have been told numerous times that the upstop limiter needs to be adjusted (with warnings that improper adjustment can cause damage) BUT I have no idea which way the limiter needs to be moved to accomplish this..

Can someone tell me which way to adjust it so that i get about 1/8" more height out of the 3pt (and therefore the MMM)? I am assuming I disconnect the rod attached to the limiter, loosen the locking nuts and move it up or down the threaded rod..

attaches are pics of the limiter and attachment schematics

thanks

brian

I'm not sure we're all using the same terminology here. By my thinking, the upstop limiter is the vertical metal tab welded toward the front of the deck that will hit the frame if the deck is raised too high. I don't know if you have the 3 point or the independent lift, but I think the adjustment is done the same either way.

The way I adjusted the deck height is as follows. I raised it as high as I could with the lift and verified that there was some gap between the limiter and the frame. Then I put it in the "install" position and lowered the deck all the way to take the load off the lift arms. I disconnected the lift arms and tightened the turnbuckles an equal amount. (this assumes you have the deck leveled already) Then I lifted the deck fully to verify it still had a gap between the limiter and the frame. I repeated the process until the gap was about 1/8" or less.

I have the mechanical lift and found out what the metal tab was for only yesterday.. Mine is 1/2 to 3/4" away from the tractor, where the manual says ~3mm below the tractor (i think)..

I tried adjusting the turnbuckles yesterday.. My problem was i couldnt turn the turnbuckles any higher because the arms would not catch on the MMM as you drove over the deck.. I still need about 1/8" more height so the ear misses the cam

In the second picture - What is the metal thing on the threaded rod called? From what I believe - it is what controls how high the 3pt raises.. That is what another member adjusted to get the height he needed for the cam would be adjusted correctly..

Call me confused..

I have the independent lift, so I'm not sure exactly how the 3 point system works. However, all this discussion has me planning to get underneath and trace back through the linkages to see if I have any additional adjustments. With the deck lift arms adjusted as high as I can go without hitting the frame, my arms catch the deck with no problem.

KennyG - to help you out.. In my first post you will see a diagram of the parts for the mechanical lift..

the part #23/21 is the lever that goes from the 3pt (You can see it in the second pic in the lower left hand corner (shiny gold color)) to the mounting brackets and raises/lowers the MMM along with the 3pt hitch.. when the 3pt is raised the #23/21 pulls back on the #9, which causes the 'ear' (between part #11 and #12) to rotate. you want the 'ear' to clear #5 so the handle will turn 360 degrees without hitting. In the up/lock position you want the 'ear' hitting #5 at the biggest part.

Once the ear clears the biggest part of the cam, the steps in #5 give you 1/2" height control setting for each step down.

If you want the MMM to be higher you can shorten #23/21.. With the 3pt UP, i got under the tractor and pushed up on the part #9 - any free play there is how much you can raise the MMM with #23/21.

When you adjust the turnbuckles you are really not getting the mounting hitch/brackets any higher, you are just getting the MMM to be higher - there still may be room for the entire lift mechanism to go higher..

IF you have have space between the metal tab on the front of the MMM (what you refered to as the upstop limiter) and the tractor, you have two choices - a) adjusting #23/21 and if that doesnt get it high enough you need to adjust the 'thing' in the second pic on the threaded bolt.. The 'thing' from what I think - controls how high the 3pt can go..

clear as mud

UPDATE - got the height control knob working correctly - by accident...

When i raised the 3pt fully it will go into a relieve/overpressure position (make a squealing noise slightly) - when its there I can get the knob twisted around so the biggest part of the cam will hit the ear - then let the pressure off the 3pt and the deck is now 'locked' up correctly..

in the lock position the deck barely drops.. AND it appears that the first or second lower notch on the cam is where I like to mow :)

My knob is 180 degrees off fromt he decal.. so I am just going to use black marker to color of the indicator on the knob and then put a red decal as the indicator..
