Advice for a birthday gift for a 65 year old guy??

I had my 79th earlier in the 3rd of this month and I got a Kia Sportage. (had to buy it myself) I thought I was worth it.

This is how you get a good gift. Buy it yourself. Otherwise you get a marginal gift, at best that more closley resembles what they think you would want but is not what you really want.

Give him cash and tell him to buy something he really wants and to think of you every now and then when he uses it.

My wife's elder brother...a Vietnam War veteran, turns 65 this weekend and we are getting together for a cookout dinner. But we are darned as to what to get him as a gift...he lives in a tiny apartment and is unable to drive and has little interest in anything outside of his home. Would anyone have an idea of what we might be able to get for him? Thanks for any input.

Get his military things together and make him a shadow box. Medals, awards, pictures, unit patches, etc... If he was a marine a kabar. A coffee cup with his date of service and unit logo on it. A trip to see the wall in DC. HS.

Didn't I mention in the OP that the brother does not drive? And as far as getting him a new car goes: Our primary and newest vehicle is a 16 year old GMC.

That went well yesterday...we arranged for another sibling (his younger sister) and her family to meet us at a local park, my wife and I picked up and drove them to the park and met the others there and served the brother and his wife and best friend a BBQ lunch...with a pair of home cakes, and he got $150 in gift cards plus all the leftovers...AND we confirmed that we will repeat the experience next month, minus the gift cards that time. It REALLY made the day for those three as they have no transportation except a city bus or a bicycle. Was a simply beautiful day to be outdoors AND (drum roll here) there was a local street rod club get together at the park with about 20-25 keen cars for us to ogle....:thumbsup:
