Kubota L3560HSTC LE, John Deere 950
Have a L3560HSTC LE and am looking to buy a new rotary cutter. I think I have it narrowed down to two units. The Kubota dealer has a Land Pride RC2072 which weighs in at 745 lbs. The other option is a Modern Ag unit that weighs right at 900 lbs. Both are 6 foot cutters which I know some will say is to large for the tractor. I am currently running an older 6 footer and it is also what I have used on my old tractor which had less hp and weight. For what I do it seems to work great. I am just concerned a little by the weight. The LP is one of the units Kubota recommends as a "matched" cutter. Is an additional 150 lbs going to make that much difference?

I really like the 3/16 deck on the Modern Ag unit as well as the galvanizing and 10 year warranty.

Thoughts?

No, it won't. The only thing you need to match is cutting width not brands. That tractor should power and lift a 6' cutter just fine.

Love the Frontier cutter I have.

I saw the Modern Ag when looking at different tractors. Thought the galvanized was a good idea so did Abit of research and liked what I saw.

Went ahead and picked one up this afternoon. Ran it about 1/2 an hour and think it is going to work great. 10 year warranty is just a bonus.

Looks great! Hope you can enjoy your purchase for many years to come. Keep the oil checked/changed regularly in the gear box and keep those blades sharpened and you shouldn't have any problems

Thanks! Yep, checked the oil and ran the grease gun over everything just to make sure nothing was missed. The most surprising thing to me in the short time I ran it was that the tractor seemed to ride smoother. My old cutter was a lot lighter and this tractor is heavy enough that I could see me destroying that cutter. My ground is very rough at this point and the extra weight seems to help smooth it out some. I think the lighter unit was bouncing a lot and this one is heavy enough to resist that.

It could be that or is could be that old units tend to be dinged and bent and warp and the blades get dinged and bent and it all creates an imbalance which causes the unit to away and jerk. Mine is in desperate need of some welds and new blades/balancing to get it smoothed out again

Get the faster Blade Tip Speed.

13-15k BTS units doesn’t have a smooth cut.

I would guess that the Modern Ag cutter at 150 pounds heavier is an all around heavier cutter. Your tractor should have no problems with the heavier unit. Buy the one that best fits your needs and move on. JMHO - I'd be buying the heavier unit. Remember - this is an implement that you will be keeping and using for a looooong time into the future.

Oosik, that is exactly what I did, HAve put 2 hours on the cutter so far and it is working great. It stays grounded well and runs really quiet compared to the old one. I think it is going ot work great for me. Seems like a real bargain as it was only $50 more than the LP.
