Advice needed on oxy acetylene torch

My vote goes to using the cutting head for heating... I do it all the time, and it works just fine...

SR

Here's my vote as well. I heat stuff all the time with a cutting head and never an issue. Keep things simple.

When I need to put some serious heat to something I move the gas regulator over to my propane tank from the grill. With the regulator all the way open I can run a #20 rose bud without any trouble. If I ever need more heat than that I'm going to be in a serious bind, it will make just about anything cherry red in a hurry. Propane tanks do not have the flow restriction that and acetylene tank does.

I think you are heating too close to the shaft. Move out so that the only heat goes to the hub.
Just my 2cents.
