( ( Saying no is easy, I have to say it to women all the time )

You mean when she says things like "You don't mind doing the dishes tonight, do you?" )

Re: Advice on saying \"no\" or \"tough luck\" nicely

We get hounded by telemarkers at home. Canada had no 'no call' registry, and if it did, it would exempt 'charities' who are the worst abusers.

My oldest kid freaked out because he handed me the phone when one of these dirtbags called and I said, simply, "Don't call again" and hung up.

He chastized me for not being polite. My replys was "I have a commercial relationship with this person. There is no need to be polite"

Returns policies are not about being poilite. Its about business and getting people to buy stuff off you rather than somebody else.

Let her put the thing up on eBay herself.

Re: Advice on saying \"no\" or \"tough luck\" nicely

When I get a call from a tellemarketer, I ask them to hold while I get somebody. Then I put the phone down and check back every five to ten minutes to see how long until they hang up.

Funny thing is, I don't get many calls anymore /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Advice on saying \"no\" or \"tough luck\" nicely

A little off the track, but one thing I learned was to choose my words carefully in these situations.

I use "won't" instead of "can't", like "I won't do that" instead of "I can't do that". If you use "can't" the next thing they do is ask "Why can't you?".

Using "won't" makes it clear to them that your position is firm.

Works very well when kids call asking for a "loan".
