Advice on square balin w/ DK50 2nite

Hey all. Im gona try runnin n old new holland small square baler tonite with dk 50 hst. I need sum quick advice on wat gear? Im thinkin low gear n run at reg. Pto speed correct? We should not double up windrows with small baler? Ne advice would b appreciated got rain on,the way! Thanks all

Yes, you are correct. If a gear drive, low range gear 2 or 3. Just very slow and rated PTO RPM @ 2500.

I like 13-14 strokes per bale. My JD 346 wire baler does better at about 21-2200 rpm.

I also shift up or down depending upon the windrow ... sometimes in places the windrow gets light so I shift up to keep a good flow of hay going into the baler and shift back down when the row gets heavy again.

Have fun ... I love to square bale. How do you pick up the bales? Pull a wagon? Use an Accumulator?

This is my 1st time balin. No thrower so just gona pick up n throw on wagons n trailers. Learnin experience for me n a friend. If goes well goin to continue it n buy haybine rather then our 2 sickle mowers! We r excited redy to try baler out. It baled straw end of last season so he says it will work im skeptical but if we in bind we can borrow a neighbors .

Well the 1st baler we could not get to tie. 2nd baler tied but r hay was still a lil to wet so it ended up gettin rained on last nite n showers this mornin. Next 5 days look dry gona let it go till sat n then,rake up to dry n mayb turn it sunday n then bale
