I am a new member to the forum. I bought my 2003 DX40 used (23hrs) about a year ago. I have been using it with relatively few problems, until about 2 months ago. At about 120 hrs, I had to replace the oil cooler because it developed a small crack by the one fitting ($180). I only have engine warranty now, but my dealer was hopefully going to cover at least part of it. Today, I noticed that 3 of the head gasket bolts are loose, and one may be broken. I spoke to my dealer, and luckily the warranty guy was there today. They will cover the repairs, but I am wondering if this is common among the DX series, or if anyone else has had these problems. I am also curious if there are any "common" problems that I may expect from my DX40.

The tractor works great otherwise. I put on a new LX116 FEL shortly after getting the tractor, and I use it for light loader work on my farm. I also have a rear-mounted rotary mower and blade for it.

I would appreciate any advice or your opinions.

I'll see if I can figure out how to post a couple of pics of my tractor.

Travis.

Sheepman, welcome to the forums. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You sure know how to get our attention. We know about the oil cooler problem, but I have not heard anybody say they have head bolts coming loose. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Do you think somebody before you might have "messed" with the bolts?

The DX40 is the same mechanically as the New Holland TC40DA. Your's is the first engine problem of this type I have heard about. It almost sounds like a little sabotage could have happened to your tractor. Of course, I'm not saying that for sure and you can bet I'll take a look at the headbolts on my tractor after this revelation. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I sure hope everything works out okay with yours.

Hi,
I had also a lot of problems with my tc 45 d
It was a **** !!
Everything went wrong.
I sold mine on 220 h everything was replaced i warranty but when my warranty was past i sold it.
My dealer said if there wasn't a warranty i could buy me a new one with the cost of the repairs.

So much problems i've never had with a tractor and i work 15 years with NH and ford.
So i trusted still the quality.
Now i have a Nh tce and i am very happy with it.

Thanks for the reply, jinman. It doesn't appear that anyone had messed with the bolts before me, the factory paint is still on the bolt heads. I had my dealer look up the repair history on my tractor, and they said nothing came up. Hopefully that's all that breaks down on it for a while. I don't work it very hard, just mainly pushing snow now. As long as it's going to be in the shop, I'm going to have them put in a block heater. She starts pretty hard sometimes up here. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
