The way I see it, estimating the price of something combines a whole variety of factors such as condition, location, access to potential buyers, quality of the listing, time of year, rarity, access to accurate comparative sales, etc. not tractor related, but had experience researching a artwork my mum inherited that she wanted to sell, spent the time in the library meticulously going through auction records and making a chart of sale prices, similarity to what we had, type of auction and auction house that handled them. Eventually came up with a price she should expect. She had the work appraised by an expert she met and he agreed the price range I had was right. She consigned it and ended up getting what we estimated (a museum that owned related pieces ended up with it).
radios1 is right about the relative interest in walk-behind versus the discontinued tractors. The older Gravely walk behind attachments likely have a larger community of enthusiasts than the 4 wheel variants as a lot more were made I believe. The guy who might buy it may be someone who might turn up his nose at the current listing of same model on eBay (languishing at a high price with no bids or even being watched) that is rusty and jenky and would jump on RR Mac’s snowblower if it was listed for a similar or lower price.
Leaving aside eBay or Craigslist for a mo, lots of people like Facebook for flogging items they want to sell. There is in fact a Gravely Tractor Club of America with a Facebook page who are in fact having a “mow-in” Meet-up in Westminster MD Sep 7 this year. Wouldn’t surprise me if the guy who would buy the attachment belongs to that group.
