Is this for personal or professional use?? Professional units run $1500ish i believe.. Personal units can be gotten for under $200

I have been using a friends pull behind 48" Sears aerator for the past few years and it does an excellent job for my yard.. I typically aerate 2 to 3 times a year and i get up to 3" plugs (with about 120# of weight) depending on how wet it is.. I just cant justify much more expense for what I amdoing with it..

good luck

Brian

I actually need both an aerator and a dethatcher. I am only using this for my 2 acres but I do want decent units I can use for a long time.
Are some of the drag behind harrow type units good for dethatching?
thanks

I bought a dethatcher at Agr Supply about a year ago. It's very cheap, about $100, and is pulled from the drawbar. You CANNOT back up with this device. It'll bend the hitch. Otherwise, it works fine for dethatching.

Around here, you can rent a core aerator, 3 different kinds. One of them includes one for the 3 ph. It's a heavy looking beast. My 4010 will probably handle it. My problem is no way to get it home. It's just a tad large to just put inside the gate in the back of my Tacoma. That way, I could just hitch up to it with the 4010 with the Tacoma backed to the ramp that goes up into my carriage house.

Core aerators are used so infrequently that renting is a good option to check out.

Around me they only rent the self powered BlueBird aerators and they run around $60 for a 3 hour rental. I actually rented one a couple of weekends ago and it is very tiring machine to use as it basically drags you along behind it. A tractor pulled one is not available for rent in my area.

This is the rental/homeowner model of the machine I plan on purchasing and it runs $300. I figure 5 rentals of the machine above would cost me the same so I might as well buy one. I plan on aerating twice a year (Spring/Fall). Rental/Residential Core Aerator
