First if all, it is not Afghans who are the terrorists. Almost all of those identified as responsible for 9-11 were Saudi Arabians of the Wahhabi Salafi sect, a murderous cult with a 200 year history of mass killings, including hundreds of thousands of Muslims. In any event, none of them were Afghans.

People have expessed their sadness and sympathy for victims, and support for America here on the board, which I think is fine.

Maybe we could all agree to a rule to refrain henceforth from extraneous and irrelevant posts of this type. It isn't going to produce anything positive in the long term, IMO.

This whole situation needs careful and serious thought. We are in the midst of an unfolding bioterror attack on several fronts, as well as continued alert against larger and more violent attacks on our homeland. I am sure your intention is innocent, but personally I do not see any "humor" in it.

Bob, your point's well taken, but it would be a sad situation if we had to stay serious all the time, and I'm sure it's pretty tough to have any jokes or cartoons that don't offend someone, even though the butt of a lot of jokes seem to enjoy them as much as anyone else; i.e., Aggie jokes are popular in Texas and sometimes I think an awful lot of them originated with graduates of Texas A&M.

At any rate, I first saw this particular cartoon when it came in an e-mail that's probably been forwarded all over the country, and I think there's some humor there. Of course, if you start trying to boil it down to facts, our nation and government obviously believes the training camps (or at least part of them) are in Afghanistan; doesn't necessarily mean the students or instructor are Afghans (there's been ample press given to ***** Bin Laden's origins).

Oh well, as I said, I can see your point, but I also see no harm in joking a bit./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I didn't intend for it to infer Afganastan...I just moved the information from my email over to here as it was presented and that's how it was presented to me.

Again, current facts aside, I see some humor there and I am sensative that there are some that may find any of this in poor taste. It is to those I apolgized to up front.

THAT said, I have to admit that Bird voiced my bigger thoughts rather succintly.

Hillbilly, I guess you know that I've been married to a West Virginia hillbilly for more than 36 years./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif And her mother, who's still up there, told me years ago that she (mother-in-law) does NOT like to be called a hillbilly. I think she's gotten used to it though./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif The old lady will be 94 a week from today!! And would you believe I've never made any jokes about her being born on Halloween, even though she still likes to dress up like a witch and go out to eat on Halloween./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Wish we could be there next week.

I can see how someone could take offense to it. You did apologize in advance if it offended anyone. And it was on the off topic and just for fun forum. You could rename the post 'terrorist school' and leave out the Afghans, however, we can not all be politically correct all of the time. Or you could take it with a grain of salt. Read it, digest it and poop it out if it's not nourishing. For what it's worth, I laughed hard at the terrorists, not the Afghan people.

Sounds like she is a special person!!!!!!!I like to see old people like that who can still smile and enjoy life,it makes it nice for everyone who surrounds her.That would be a memorable site to see a lady her age in costume and a festive mood.
Too bad you can't be up here all the pretty autumn splendor,although where she lives the elevation is higher than where I live and the leaves may be gone?? I think she may see some white stuff this weekend it is suppose to be cold.
They already had a snow up at the Snow shoe ski resort.

No harm done what so ever,only the author of the cartoon said Afghan,which is not the case as previously stated. It was good humour and I have seen more pointed comics in the editorial page.
This politcally correct approach to everything in this day and age really annoys me..What bothers me more than anything is seeing comics that are vile and lewd in nature.

A funny comic IMO, I will take it to work and post it on the bulletin board.

I've never been PC and have no time for those who are. Its a bunch of touchy-feeling BS. The thought that a grown man would be offended by a stupid cartoon is too much.

I bet their teacher shortage is much worse than ours.
