How long after plowing do you wait work to ground and do you use a set of discs or a cultavtor? Sorry about the spelling

About a day. Don't wait to long especially if you have a clay because it will turn into bricks if left out in the sun to long.

Usually a disk is the thing to use because you need to firm the ground back up after plowing.

Till you can't make ball out of soil, like snowball. Could be right after you plow.

Follow up question do you go with the furrow or across them?

15 degree to the furrow, after getting the dead furrows worked up.

Working wet clay can be a problem, so follow the s78wingrider recipe.

The time lag can vary depending on the type of soil turned over, when it's turned and what your intentions are. The area in which you live will also be a factor.

So, from what I can recall for where I lived.:D

If it's sod wait several weeks and then disk it at right angles if your back can stand the ride.

Cultivated land can have real variances:

Plow in the fall and leave till spring to work again.

Plow in spring, wait a week and disk or diamond harrow at right angles. This may let some weeds sprout that you get with the second working.

Plow during the summer and do the second at your convenience.:D

That works great if it rains in a timely fashion, if it doesn't you just #*$*#* yourself.

The key to not getting a Spring rush in preparing a seedbed for whatever, is to plow the prior fall or 3rd or 4th week of Feb when we always get that special spring "window of opportunity". Better to work with mother nature, rather than to fight with her. Ken Sweet

There is no plowing done in Feb around here.

I agree fall plowing is best, but not always realistic.

Yea, we plow a lot in February here too, but there is never a problem with weeds, and we use a much longer plow. :D :D :D

Here in southern New Mexico I have to say this was an unusual year, between being a care giver and the weather since late November I have had the chance to be on TBN waaaay to much.

I also like to wait until after a rain, when the ground gets dry enough to get back out there. First pass with disc is parallel to plow, 2nd is perpendicular, and again, after a rain if possible. Third pass (if necessary), parallel again.
