My B7100 wasn't started all winter. I never put any additives in the diesel or properly set the antifreeze levels, i suspect it's close to 100% antifreeze.

Is there anything I should do before trying to crank it up? Is there any chance of gummed up antifreeze or fuel?

The lowest it got was negative 15 degrees F one night.

I'd check under hood & dash board etc. in case mice decided to make home, also might be good idea to change fuel filter.

When the B7100 comes a live check for leaks strange noise etc.

Let tractor run good 10 to 15 mins at normal warm up idle before test spin.

Just my nickle worth.

Good point on letting it idle for awhile before working with it.

I changed all the fluids/filters last summer, about 8 months ago, including the fuel filter.

Are you saying I should change the filter because I let it sit all winter with the fuel untreated?

Check your fuel for water. If it wasn't full when you parked it condensation may have got into the tank. If you start it and it spits and sputters and stalls out this could indicate water in the fuel. You might want to add some Power Service or something similar to remove moisture that may have got into the tank. Since you changed all the fluids 8 months ago they should be fine.

Put the battery on a trickle charge overnight to top off the battery.
Antifreeze should be a 50/50 or 60/40 mix not 100%. Antifreeze by itself is not good, it needs a water mix to properly protect the engine.

Don't cycle your glow plugs at first, let the engine crank a few times over to get the oil circulating. Then cycle your glow plugs and try to start.

As Thomas said, check under the dash and hood for any signs of rodent nests. Check the wiring harnesses closely for bare wires. Mice love to chew up wiring harnesses creating all sorts of problems.

I don't think you'll have any major issues other than these.

.

You should never run a vehicle w 100% anti-freeze. It doesn't conduct heat very well at all. The absolute most AF should be 70/30, but that's only if you live in AK or International Falls, etc. Most of us should be running 50/50.

I change the oil at least every year, sometimes seaonally depending on the work I have done(real dusty conditions ect). When they sit, they have acids and other nasty diesel combustion byproducts. That sits all winter, and does the oil no good.

Fuel should be OK! If you are worried, drain it, charge the battery and i'm sure she will turn right over! Check your anti-freeze mix, 100% seems odd. If possible take it to your dealer have them change everything and you should be good!

i replaced the dyno and cleaned the radiator last summer. i refilled with all antifreeze because I didn't have any distilled water at the time. meant to drain it and never got around to it. didn't drain the crankcase so it's not 100% but higher than it should be.

will do it shortly.

i cranked it up today, it fired right up of course. i'm so glad i finally own lawn equipment without carbs, i absolutely hate them.

It's funny, my neighbor bought an old town plow truck at auction 5 years ago. It was a big machine, even had the wing on the plow. He put the thing in a field and let it sit. This past year he hooked up the battery and it started right up. I couldn't believe it, he did not add anything to the fuel, nor did he "prepare" it for storage. It just goes to show you that you can't kill a diesel unless you really, really try!
