Why did the Bulls Eye" convenience store eliminate your need for a farm filled fuel tank ?[/COLOR]

At only 3.5 miles he may just pull his tractor up to the pump :p

Why do you need a cred card to buy to buy diesel?

I mean you have to walk inside the convenience store part of the gas station and get in line to prepay, or give the means to pay. That could be a credit card, debit card, gas card, throw the man a twenty, whatever you prefer. I would prefer being able to swipe my card at the pump for diesel like I currently do at the same station for gas.

FYI, I always pay with a company fuel card because I work for the payment company. I get a 3% discount on the price of fuel, which is the payment company's cut of the fuel transaction. The other 97% of the fill up gets deducted from my pay check at the end of the month. So I may pay with a fuel credit card but it really isn't one for me.

I live in VT.:dance1: We do what we want! There is diesel most everywhere one buys fuel. I converted a 150 gallon fuel tank on skid 'feet' to a diesel storage tank with electric, (original) fuel pump suited to pump gas or diesel. I spray foamed the outside of the tank after cleaning out the inside and replacing the draw tube with plastic instead of the rusted metal one. It is stored in my barn with a metal vent pipe to outside. I fill it with winter diesel in the fall and run it all year round. No problems with my tractor no matter how cold it gets outside - BTW, did I mention my barn floors are radiant heated?
Never have used the block heater that came with my tractor. :confused3:

To buy farm diesel in Texas now you have to have a Texas Agriculture Exemption Number. To get a number you have to be a commercial farming/ranching operation selling a product or performing a listed Ag service and register with the state.

We have two gas stations across the road from each other. Both have diesel, but neither have off road. Most farmers have the tanks in the back of their pickup trucks that look like tool boxes for filling. Same with the quarry guys.

I found this thread while looking for info on using #2 fuel oil as a subsitute for off road diesel. Is that an option for older (1980 ish) tractors?

I have to travel a distance to get off road diesel, but have #2 fuel oil on hand. Is there a problem using it?

You can use it. But, FYI, in the next couple years or so Maine will be switching to Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (like the offroad diesel) for all of its home heating oil stocks, the EPA requires it. You'll want to make sure whatever you use this winter has the proper cold weather additives so it doesn't gel up on you.

Interesting. The nearest off road diesel supplier has a HIGH SULFUR notice posted on his pump. It is my understanding that the sulfur provides some additional lubrication, and so it is beneficial. Is that correct? Perhaps I should just bite the bullet, and a keep a few cans of off road didsel on hand.

I've been using home heating oil in my 2006 Kioti DK45SC for the last couple of years. So far, I haven't noticed any difference in starting, running, power, etc. HHO is about $ .40/l (about $1.50/US gal) cheaper than road diesel here, so I really hated paying road taxes for non-road use. I buy 40l of fuel at a time at a local gas station with an HHO pump (every week or two), so I save $16 each time I fill my two cans. As for gelling...first, although it occasionally approaches -30C here, around -17C or so is more common (about 0F); second, a lot of HHO tanks are outdoors, so if HHO is susceptible to gelling wouldn't it also be an issue for gravity-feed oil lines to furnaces?
