R4s vs R1s...well, next time your'e out workin it and you look down at your rears spinning those R4s, you gotta ask that question: Would those R1s make a difference? You won't know unless you try them in similar circumstances. One thing for sure though and I don't care what expert with 120 years driving tractors will say, if your'e spinning R1s, then R4s won't cut it either. I have both, like em' both. All in all...I vote R1s because you typically lose traction before stalling your powerplant...R1s equal max traction. Want to avoid leaving your footprint, then you can get another smaller tractor...and R4s. Enjoy your ride!

I attached photos. Does it look like snow builds up in them? As far as R4's in mud goes, I would not go near some of the spots I drive through if I had R1's. The R1's that would fit my tractor are a third narrower and would dig to china in the 1-1.5' of mud I have driven through. No matter what tires you have, If you are pulling a loaded firewood wagon or trailer, or carrying more than a a couple hundred pounds in the bucket of a tractor you are going to get in trouble in over 6" of mud. Ya gotta use yer head. I do agree that mud can clug the r4 tread, but I'll wager the sticky clay mud I've got would build up some on ag's too. As far as mud building up and clogging the fenders's goes... What were you doing? I want to see photo's or better yet video of what kind of mud bogging was going on.
