AG Tires Versus Industrial

/ AG Tires Versus Industrial #21
I do agree that AG's are the best for overall traction and dirt work, the higher percentage of my customers are looking for the best all-around and the R4's seem to do the best job of that, also the 4x4 makes up for alot on a loader tractor

I don't disagree that R4s are very popular. Heck, I wanted them myself because of all the heavy FEL and logging work I do. But traction was a far more important consideration for me. And after having to pull my R4-wearing neighbor out of very shallow mud several times there was no way I was going to risk getting stuck that often. As for 4x4, my tractors live their entire lives with 4x4 engaged; for some of us it's a necessity, not a fudge factor thing.

Just an observation here, with no data to back it up -- Most of the folks buying compacts and sub compacts are moving into the tractor ownership from the lawn mower, lawn "tractor" and garden tractor perspective. They are possibly into cars or trucks pretty heavily. From that point of view, R4 tires look all macho, rugged, and unstoppable. Hence, when they buy or order a CUT, they go with the R4 tires. Since these guys make up a very large part of the customer base, R4 tires tend to look like the item to order to the guys in the sales department.

On the other hand, those who are coming to CUTs from the bigger tractor end will often want maximum traction and are not too impressed by macho looks. They know what works, and that's what they buy.

I am also trying to decide between R4 and R1's but have a different problem than mud loading. Here in the Arizona desert everything has big thorns and I need a tire that will not go flat every time I run over a cactus. Which tire do you think will hold up the best? I wish I had some mud to play in sometimes.

( I am taking delivery on a new GL 3130 FST next friday, but i spec'd it with AG tires... since lawn shredding isnt a consideration for me... I am wondering if INDIND are better or AG are better... I will be doing mostly FEL work and Box scraping.. maintaining horse areas that kind of thing... input MUCH appreciated... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif )

I hear INDs turn into racing slicks in mud.
I was grubbing the other day where it was sorta muddy and the tractor was sliding sideways on a very slight slope.
Glad I had AGs on it as they pulled me out of it onto more solid ground.
The last thing I needed was racing slicks.
I can see me sliding over the hill had the tires been INDs.

I'd rather have tires that are safer than tires that keep the grass looking nice.
I'd rather prevent damage to the tractor and myself than prevent it to the lawn.
