that was actually part of the 1st and 2nd complaint.

1st complaint said no water ( part of the complaint ).

I have a large 100+g stock trough with auto float valve on it right up next to the barn :(

2nd complant also said no feeding.

there are hay rounds ( good coastal, nice looking hay.. 56$ a roll !!! )!!!

I asked the SC guy if he/they would feel better if I cut the hay the horse was standing on/in and bailed it then put it right back out for him

Water. You should be mixing up ice tea when it's hot and coffee when it's cold for that horse

Interesting thread and very informative. I don't have any animals, and never thought about those who did. I like that they came and took a look from the complaint. I think that's a good thing. Once they saw that the animals where fine, that's where it should have ended and if more calls came in, then it should have become a harrassment issue.

I wonder about the red posters and how much authority they have. From what I understand, unless you sign for something, like a ticket, or acknowledge it, you don't have to respond. I know camera traffic tickets skirt this and they are always going to court to fight them over this point. If I get something in the mail, or is left on my gate, there isn't anything to prove that I actually got it, so nobody can accuse me of ignoring it or not responding.

I've been going through a tax issue with a piece of land that I sold and the title company paid the taxes on when the buyer paid for the land. The county has a record of the taxes being paid, but their collection agency, a law firm based out of Houston doesn't have any record of this, or even sending out the notices. I spoke to everyone involved and now it's just something that I ignore. It's annoying, but it's meaningless.

Seems like Soundguy is doing the best thing he can and working with those who are investigating this. Doing anything himself will only come back to bite him and probably get himself into trouble. Might be what the person wants!!!!! Since there is no way of knowing what motivates crazy people, its better not to try to figure them out or play their games. Some thrive on conflict and push it to get to that point. Ignoring crazy people seems to be the only way for them to lose interest and move on in their search for the drama they need in their lives.

The other option that comes to mind is to ask for help in the community with posters that say what is going on. Bring it out into the open without name calling or accusations. Just ask for help and information to protect all of you from this person. Most people who hide behind annomity are cowards who like the power of being a bully without anybody knowing who they are. Once they become known, they tend to disapear and lose interest in what they where doing.

Good luck, it sucks to have to deal with this sort of behavior.

How quickly Oscar became a family member...

Soundguy, I'm surprised & disheartened that you feel threatened to the extent you do over the multiple red tickets. For starters no enforcement agent short of a judge can determine your guilt of anything. The reason the animal control agent didn't enter your property is because they're not authorized unless the animals' health is in immanent danger, which they apparently determined was not the case. After the first call, despite the caller's anonymity & potentially multiple complaints, the harassement is coming from the animal control agency. You seem to have developed a workable relationship with the local agent but if the problem doesn't go away I'd try this: Florida Attorney General - Citizen Services Contact Form. I've used this method 3 times in my state all with positive results. It's obvious that there's a crime in your situation but you are not the perpetrator and you should not be paying a price. Yeah, but Oscar is being left behind while Eddie vacations on a cruise. Think how much fun Oscar would have on the ship's pool slide! Give Oscar a couple of little toy wind mills and I bet he would go Weeee Weeee Weeeeee. Oscar might even like to ride a zip ride.

Nope, poor Oscar is being left behind.... :D

I think we need to report Eddie to animal control, anonymously of course. He is abusing his poor pet pig by not taking Oscar with him on the cruise. :)

Soundguy,
You seem to be acting with a level head and are being cautious about your response which is always the best course. We got evicted from where we were living at the time we started our house building project. The county responded to an "anonomous call". My eviction story is described here.

When dealing with the Animal Control dept., by all means be courteous and non-confrontational as you appear to have been. The last thing you want to do is get on their bad side. People have made some suggestions in this thread that could make your life miserable if you headed them. I agree with people's aingst regarding the wrongness and injustice of your scenario. However, you must use discretion in your response and not act in frustration as hard as that may be. In our case, we were able to get the county officers to give us some leeway and time in order to find a solution to our problem. While I believe the county officials were completely wrong in their interpretation of the zoning ordinance, in our case it was better to work with them than to fight with them in court.

In your case, I would let it go unless you get a third complaint. At that point, I would get tired of the same thing repeating with no end in sight. If you get a 3rd complaint, I would make an appointment and talk to the AC officer's supervisor. It would be no use trying to get the AC officer to not comply with the office's policy regarding investigating every anonymous complaint. See if the supervisor can add some common sense to the problem. My experience has been that the people working in county agencies aren't necessarilly bad people; most people want to work out a solution that is good for all. So they will probably work with you if you make an appointment to meet with them at their office.

You definitely don't want to mention "lawyer" to them until you've tried every way possible to work things out with the AC office (not just the AC officer). As always, the last resort would be to get a lawyer involved. Once the lawyers are involved, your chance of working things out amicably are over. The county has more money to pay lawyers than you do.

Yes, you have lots of justification for a legal case against the county if this situation continues. You just have do decide if you want that kind of headache. If you end up fighting a legal battle, it will make the headlines and you could very easily forever be labeled as the guy who abuses his horses. Even if you win the legal battle, you could likely lose the public opinion poll.
