AGF 180 Ditch Bank Flail Mower - Bearing Failure

Yes, I thought the same thing. But 3 tons of pressure was not sufficient to budge that housing a millimeter. It is attached to the axle with tremendous force.

I think his point is to push the axle out of the bearings, not try to pull the flange off the roller. If you remove clips from both ends, can you push the axle through the bearings? Then you can pull the bearings from the flanges as noted above.

Update - my local welder / machine guy got the housing off along with everything else except the inner bearing ring, which is nearly fused onto the shaft. He's carefully cutting it off. Should be bearing free tomorrow!!! Now to find an appropriate replacement bearing, with spherical rollers! He thinks he has a source for those as well. So this is great news. This unit might be salvageable yet.

Just my two cents.
It looks like you have a moisture problem there. Do you work that unit submerged? The significant amount of corrosion is an indicator for moisture.

Nope. I've never run it in water and it's been barn kept for it's entire (short) life.

It's like with wheel hubs, if you don't fill them entirely with grease, you'll get condensation and corrosion in there.
Maybe it was assembled and not greased enough and condensation built up on it's way across the pond.

I greased mine every 20 hours as per book, a few squirts. Bearing just failed in any case. Nothing to do with condensation, water and not over-greased or under-greased whatsoever. I put SKF bearing on it done 3 times the work since and it is working great now. Just cheap original parts. When a bearing disintegrates after 100 hours, there's "sum ting wong" so to speak

I don't think it has to do with lack of maintainance.
IMO that corrosion caused the failure. Moisture was the culprit for the corrosion and that started at the assembly line or even at the drawing board and the choice of quality products or the lack of.

Well, this unit has less than 50 hours on it. It's honestly barely used. The bearing if off now, and hopefully I can source a suitable replacement. Of course, there is absolutely no manual or any parts specifications available. So. Oh well. I can calipers and will measure it carefully if necessary - but my welder / machine shop operator seems to think he can get a replacement. He's done great work for me, so I trust him. Fingers crossed!!!

In one of the pictures, I can see something stamped on. Try to find a number and cross reference.

Is this the same AGF180 bank mower that Betstco still lists on their site? Do they offer parts?
