Bird, I used to use my ag exempt number at a Sears in Texarkana TX. Now they tell me Sears has stopped that practice. Something about Sears doesn't sell anything that would be tax exempt. That's OK though. Lowes and Home Depot, in the same town, willingly take it.

I know quite a few people that have goats on their property for the Ag land use tax reduction. They say it cuts their property tax in half and all they have to do is say they sold at least one goat during the year. I haven't spoken to my county's tax collector (taxes are assessed by the Central Apprasial District)
about the requirements in my county, but I have about a hundred or so chickens. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

And there lies the "fly in the ointment". /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif When I first bought 10 acres out in the country, I talked to the local tax assessor. Of course things may have changed now, and I'll bet it's different in different counties, but at that time, he said having a dozen pecan trees on 10 acres and selling the pecans, and having a vegetable garden to sell the vegetables, and such things as that would NOT qualify, but if you had ONE cow on the property, you qualified. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif )</font>

In South Carolina all you have to have is trees. No income, no proof of planting, improving, nothing, just trees.
