Hello all,

I'm having air compressor issues. I have good tank pressure but I can't regulate the pressure down. When I turn the regulator knob counter clockwise it leaks out the bottom of the regulator.

Model, Campbell Hausfeld HJ300101

In the photo, the regulator is a part of a manifold. No apparent way to remove just the regulator that I can see. Parts are sold via ereplacements.

Part 37 is the manifold/regulator but is obsolete!! How a 4-5 year old tool is not supported with spare parts is crazy.

There are lots of aftermarket pressure regulators but it appears I would have to replumb the darn thing with 1/4" iron pipe.

One option I might be able to do is; Hope the leak stays away by leaving the non working reg turned fully clockwise. Then regulate pressure between the quick connector and the manifold.

Any regulator that doesn't cost about what that whole rig cost, is junk. And, usually doesn't last very long.

Get a small air pressure regulator, (not just a valve), put air hose fittings on it, and put it line before, or after the hose.

Ray66V,

So you feel the faulty regulator turned fully clockwise will continue to not leak and just be a pass through? I have a new regulator I will plan to install before the hose.

Thanks

The problems I've had with pressure regulators have usually been traced to moisture, and very infrequent changing of the pressure. So now, I just took my pressure regulator off the compressor, put quick couplers on both sides and I also have quick couplers on the compressor, all my hoses, and all my tools, so I can put the pressure regulator in the line whenever I want to and leave it off the rest of time, since I usually want the maximum pressure anyway.

The manifold also has the plumbing for the on / off pressure switch, so replacing it with a straight regulator might eliminate that, which is not good.
When you say it leaks when you turn the pressure down, does it continue to leak after the regulator pressure is reached? It's normal for a tank mounted reg like that to hiss a bit when adjusting down, but it should be momentary. If it does leak, and it's unavailabe, take it apart and see if it can be fixed with some o rings.

I am not familiar with your set up.

Usually when a regulator fails, the rubber diaphragm cracks.

Back the handle all the way off, on your regulator, (counter clockwise), and see if you have an air leak anywhere.

If you don't, and the hose seems to have high pressure, you should be fine with an inline regulator.

Full counter clock wise no leak. Out bound pressure is equal to tank pressure. Turning counter clock wise it starts to leak out the bottom of the regulator.

The plan is to go with the inline set up and hope the old regulator continues not to leak if cranked up. I suppose if it does start to leak, I'll have to remove the old one and replace with a plug.
