Update. Measured again, 240v current draw just turning alternator is 5 amps, with field current applied to alternator 11 amps, welding at 110 amps, 27 amps. Would be under 5 amps not running anything.

All my 3 phase is run via a rotary converter made from an old 3 phase motor...

No pony motor... simply give wind rope around the idler and give it a pull as I power it...

25 years and it has been working...

Keeping it simple has advantages. Not much can go wrong.
