Air Compressor Stalls Out

I have a Husky Pro 60 gallon, 230V, 3.2 HP air compressor. Since I moved it from the basement to the garage it will no longer compress air beyond 30psi. It stalls out almost like the pressure switch is not functioning. I have replaced the pressure switch, the run capacitor, and the pressure relief valve.

Have you checked that your cord is not damaged and that the wire connections are tight.
240 motors will not run at full power if one hot leg is damaged or loose but still allowing voltage to flow.
The damaged or loose connection will get hot quickly.

Is the motor getting hot? Does it have a thermal switch that perhaps auto resets?

Check input voltage while running.

What type of plug are you using now? What’s the amp rating on the motor?

I would say “hard wired” to the 220 side of the breaker panel..and have it’s own breaker..

What is actually happening when you say it “stalls out”?
Like motor stops turning but is humming?

I tried to post the video of what the motor is doing, but the site does not allow the video format I am using. The motor continues to run, but slows way down and does not compress to more than 30psi.

I have a 40amp breaker at the box, I am using a 230 volt three prong clothes dryer type plug, 10 guage wire to the compressor and the motor calls for 15.4 amps and 230volts. I cannot hard wire since I share that outlet with my lathe, that is also a 230 volt service.

How do you get the slowed down motor to finally stop? Are you unplugging it, or does the thermal protection kick in?

If the motor is slowing down, that would cause it to draw more current than 15 amps, and should start getting hot.

I would suggest attaching a volt meter to the motor side of the pressure switch and monitor the voltage as it runs.
