If you get an air storage tank compressor, be SURE to drain it after each use. Be suprised how much mosture builds up. If you have ever seen one that exploded you will understand why. Looks like a peeled banana.

That's what happened to my old 2hp compresser. It didn't let loose though; it just started to leak from pin holes. The petcock on it was a bear to get to, hard to turn, and a black widow haven...

On my replacemnet 5hp 60 gal setup, the first thing I did was remove the petcock at the base of the tank, and then plumbed it out the side where I could easily get to it. Now it gets the water drained every use... Where the petcock was, I could not fit my hand. And, it too was a critter/spider haven  ...

You made me curious, Robert, and Craigslist sure has a lot of them advertised.

Craigslist always amazes me. It's like Ebay; you can find pretty much anything you can imagine, and some things you would never imagine, on there.

I cannot recommend enough to make sure you can access the tank drain, and that you drain it frequently. It is amazing how much water builds up. My old compressor was a pretty decent unit; it was hard to drain, so I did it very seldom. The result was the tank rusting out.

Water does not help your air tools either...

I will say one thing about the harbor freight, and any other com/blok compressor. The little silver bottle of oil they send.. well.. I just use it for 'break in' oil. On both my HF pancake comp, and my TSC (china) comp.. I put the supplie doil in, and ran it that day for projects... oil turned dark within a few hours... I changed it out and put in Campbel hausfeld oil from TSC.. a light honey color. This oil has stayed like that. And I change it yearly.

Either the oem oil is uh.. weird.. or there are some casting oxidations ( aluminum? ) that are coming off in the first few hours of wear in. in any case.. I DO reccomend paying the 4$ extra and get some good oil and change after a few hours. I even poured a bit in after the drain. let it run around, and drained that.. just to make sure all the old stuff was flushed.

Who knows.. perhaps a 'domestic' compressor would do the same thing.. so it may not be a 'country of origin' issue. Just my observations..

There just aren't too many things you can do with a unit that small (only 2.4 scfm, 3 gal, 1 hp). I definitely like the Harbor Freight one more (5.6 scfm, 8 gal. 2.5hp) for the same price. (Both are probably made by the same company)
