Has anybody try to retrofit one of those performance filters like the one's form K&N or others, on your tractors, I think would be a lot easier to keep clean specially here in Florida. Any replies would be appreciated.

Hi,

I've never used a K & N filter, although I've heard about them. Do they make them for diesel engines? I believe diesels suck a lot more air than gas engines so it might require special designs.

Also, not sure of what the payback would be for such a setup. On a car, they claim better gas mileage, but I can't imagine any noticeable improvement in tractor performance.

They might be a bit cheaper in the long run, if they work for diesels, but I think I'll stick with the stock ones for my Kubota. Just not worth taking any chances. The ones on the B2910 are very easy to clean and change.

I don't know that you could easily fit one to your tractor, but I wouldn't have a car/truck without the K&N filter! Worth every penny...actually not much more than an OEM part...never needs to be changed and the power and gas mileage are noticeably better. Even our Prius gas/electric hybrid got a mileage jump from a K&N filter--my Tundra gets 19 mpg on the highway...and that's an accomplishment for a V8 pickup!

We have K&N air filters on three of our vehicles, so naturally I looked into changing the tractor OEM air filter over to a K&N. The stumbling blocks were a two-stage air filtration system and a complicated hold-down and seating lid. My installation would require two K&N's, one inside the other and custom machining. It would be helpful to see if any diesel equipment owners did an oil analysis showing the %silicon before and after a K&N replacement. I know this sounds silly, but it's the only way to tell how well a K&N air filter performs. Diesel equipment is usually operated in dirtier environments. If the results were at least as good as the OEM paper element, then you could proceed with confidence and save money in the long run. Oil Analysis

I have had a K & N filter on my Ford truck since I bought it. It does give a little more power. Gas mileage? Maybe.

The best thing is you only have to service is every 50,000 to 10,000 miles. You just spray it with their detergent solution, spray the dirt out from the "in" side of the filter, and spray on their oil. I think it's worth it. If they made one for Kubota tractors I would buy one.
