Air Grease Gun

The Lincoln air operated grease gun is rated 40-150 psi.. I think Welbuilt is pretty close to the same.

Vernon,

You nailed it. It was an air pocket, but not in the tube itself.

The air gap is in the top of the tube before it goes into the gun.

I shoved some grease into this space by hand and the gun worked. Then I forced about half an inch out of the tube of grease and screwed it on with the grease sticking up above the tube. A very small amount of grease came out through the threads until it got tight.

I used three tubes this morning with no more problems. I guess I finally learned how to load it properly. I'm real curious if my other guns will work now that I have this new system.

Thanks to everyone for your help!!!!!

Eddie

I mentioned this early on, you just leave the tube loose from the head a couple threads and push up on the follower when it the locked to handle.

Eddie, I figured you would have returned them and said "this junk doesn't work" I want my money back! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'm glad to know how to load a pneumatic gun now. I intend to get one in the near future.

I got in here late, but I'm going to say it anyway.
While using your gun, if it stops pumping grease, loosend the top (side with the grease point) a little, pull the spring "pusher" all the back and push in a few times, tighten the top again, and hit the trigger. This should take care of your air pockets with little trouble. If it continues, you're probably out of grease! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I'm sure all of your other guns will probably work if you try this. John

This thread reminds me of a Safety issue with the air grease guns.
One of our local shop workers was haveing problems with one and started hitting the output end on the palm of his hand to unclog the tip.He accidently hit the trigger injecting a large amount of grease through the skin into the underlying tissue of his palm. Those things have a lot of pressure and can cause more harm than most realize. Hope this might help prevent it happening to someone else.

I Love my air grease gun.

As you have found the problem is air. Happens often after changing the tube.
My gun has a little button for bleading out the air.
Hold it up right, and pull the plunger down. While pushing the button in slam the rod up quickly. Relase button and repeat,

For me this usually needs to be done 3 or 4 times after each grease tub swap. But it will then run the whole tube out with no problems.

I just leave my air compressor set at about 80 psi, and so far no problems.

The air powered units are so much easier if you have a lot of implements or a relatively big tractor.

Besides that fun little air pocket sometimes the spring loaded pusher/plunger that pushes up the grease gets hung up. I've had certain tubes of grease where it was very difficult to get the plunger inside the tube so it would work. Lots of four letter words until figuring it out.
