Funny I beat around the bush on this for 2 years. Right Larry?! I finally ordered 1 yesterday. a Milsco V5400 for 559.95. Should have it in by Thursday.

You are gonna love t, worth every penny.

I put the Milsco V-5400 on my SCAG Tigercat last year and my back thanks me every time I mow. It takes the HUH out of the bump. It was expensive, but so are doctors and chiropractors. If I had it to do over I might have even spent a couple of hundred more for a Grammer MSG 75 which has 3.1" of travel vs 2.3 on the Milsco. I saved the old seat, so if I get a new mower, I'll keep the air ride seat for the new mower.

How do air ride seats feel when leaning the tractor to the side? (i.e. going across a slope) As far as head room, should I expect a large increase in seat height? Being a shorter guy, I don't want to put extensions on my pedals

The air ride is just up and down there is a mechanism that keeps the seat stable. It's just the steel spring is replaced by an air spring.

As for the seat height you need to compare your existing seat and mounting to the new one in both the min and max height condition. For mine, the height didn't change much. When operating, you want the seat to be in the middle of the travel so that it goes up and down to react to the bumps.

I bought a mechanical suspension seat for one of my rubber tracked machines and it was a huge improvement over the fixed seat. Cost $800 but was worth every penny. I only use this machine around ten days a month but those days I am in it 10-12 hours a day. I went from being beat up and sore to not minding the time in it. I looked at the air ride and the cost was comparable but it raised the seat too high for my application given the size of my cab. My only regret was not buying this seat sooner.

I'm not familiar with air ride seats, in fact I've just had my first mechanical suspension seat with my new tractor and it's like 1000% better than my old one, that was a Kubota B7000.

Anyway, I was just brainstorming a bit and come up with an idea. What if we could add an airbag to a mechanical suspension seat and make it a low cost air ride seat?

I've just found these:

I shouldn't be too hard to add either 1 or 2 of these and make a good air ride seat. Or maybe someone knows a better source for airbags of this size.

I think I remember seeing something like that in McMaster Carr.

You are right. They have another types and bigger ones also. I would imagine this would need a shock absorber.

All you have to do is put a soccer (or right sized ball) under the seat and air it accordantly...

It works pretty good too...
