Even had trouble with two pilots flying right by Minneapolis due to being asleep. :confused3:
Pilots sometimes take naps. This can be a problem, particularly when it is the one who is supposed to be "flying",(i.e. baby sitting) the airplane. That's another issue, because pilots no longer fly commercial jets. They are just there to push buttons, talk on the radio occasionally, and make decisions if anything goes wrong. This equates to hours of boredom. At least there is still two of them there. And, unless it's a freighter, they have the rest of the flight crew to help keep them awake.
Yes, a controller at Cleveland Center was busted for watching a DVD the other night, to fight the boredom. I suspect the supervisor was probably looking the other way, because it solved the bigger problem. I know someone who was a big shot there, I will find out the facts on this one. Clearly, the controller should at least be in trouble, for watching a Samuel L. Jackson movie.
