So how do other states handle private airstrips or air parks?

Are rules and regulations deemed by the local officials?

Are they enforced?

Do owner/operators have any land restriictions placed on them (easements, right of ways, etc. etc)

Thanks!

I know WI has a state aviation dept. I bet VA also has one. That would be a good place to start looking for information.

I am a member of our local Zoning Board of Appeals, so the first place I would look is the local municipality's zoning ordinances. If there are applicable state laws, (including from the VA Av. Dept.) then the local ordinances must be in compliance. But local ordinances can (and often do) stipulate additional requirements. Your community might have them on-line, if not, you can get (or buy) a copy at your local town hall.

The Air Force Base next door keeps the private strips in the immediate area down to a bare minimum. The only thing we've had landing in our fields are helicopters. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am curious as to how OTHER states handle private airparks.
I am interested in how those rules, if any regarding aviation are enforced. Aviation meaning anything using thr airpark.

In Oregon if you build under the approach or departure end of an existing airport, you have no legal standing to complain about noise from the airport.

Same thing about farming. If you build your $1,000,000 house out in the country next to a farm & you don't like the dust from plowing or are afraid of getting poisoned by crop dusters, you have no rights to complain. They were there first.

Once in awhile, Oregon does something sensible.

What do you mean by "handle", regulate? I used to be pretty tight with some owners of grass strips, flew into and out of a couple of them and jumped into most of them, and could find out the basics if you are looking to build an airpark.

I think most states have aviation commissions. You also will have to complete a form for the FAA(for an approve landing area). This form will require coordinates of the landing area. They will then plot all of the potential hazards, notify all your neighbors.

From what I understand it's getting more and more difficult to get it done. I've seriously considered applying to do one on our property just so it'll be there, when they decide not approve these any more.
