I guess the b@stards are officially everywhere now! We've had a few killed on the roads in scattered areas but yesterday the DNR cop near me showed me a 62 lb coy/wolf (pending dna testing but based on size, head shape, etc...) killed about 20 miles from here and he was albino, pure white, pink/red eyes and all. Supposed to release pics in a few days. :(

I said "showed me", he showed me a picture, the animal appeared to have been shot with a large caliber rifle or shotgun with a heavy load like rifle slug or such. If I'd seen the critter in person I'd have taken pictures myself. He said they would be posting it on their website in a few days. It was shot near Public Landing , MD which is near Snow Hill and right on the Chincoteague Bay.

We have two albino fawns from the same doe on the land in front of us. I keep trying to get photos but they always spook too soon or it is too dark. To see those two white blobs in the dark woods is something else. Very pretty but kinda spooky. :D

The are living on some vacant lots among houses so they are pretty safe from being hunted. Frankly, it would be a sin to shoot them. They are pretty. I was surprised they had survived this long.

I really want a photo of them before they get much bigger.

Later,
Dan

62lbs is a large coyote for sure, but not unheard of.We have lots in northern NY.As a note end of Jan thru Feb. is breeding season;you may see more during the day.Keep your small pets inside.

That would be pretty much unheard of for pure blood coyotes, these coy/wolf, brush wolves or whatever are a different ballgame. When I lived in the San Joaquin Valley anything over 20-25 lbs was big, they were little critters not much if any bigger than foxes.

It has been documented that the north-east coyotes have crossed with Red wolves at some point and possibly Gray wolves.DNA proven.Ours probably average 35lbs for a female and 40-45lbs for the males.
