With these low gas prices, Alaska is going to be faced with some tough decisions if the Saudis continue to try to force competition such as American oil in the Dakotas out of business. It is a World market these days.

Tom - You are correct. With only oil revenues to support all the state government activities - reduced crude prices means reduced revenues and a lot of belt tightening.

Just wait until the AK legislators try to enact a state tax of some kind to augment sagging oil revenues - - -

I think the force is against Russia more than those US Drillers. I also think that is a failed policy by OPEC if they think they can raise price after some companies shut down. Not going to happen as most of these places will pop right back up as soon as oil creeps up again. The Russians however will not have the same issue with long term low oil means much of their development once gone will take much longer to come back with state sponsored programs.

The real issue is not that oil has dropped it comes down to the oil price was manipulated to go HIGH in the first place. Simple thing that speculation after Clinton opened up unlimited commodities trading by big banks using customer money meant FDIC backed the banks to use other people $ to speculate. Hopefully those rules can be reinstated with mostly new Congress in a few months.

That leads to my next thought on why oil pricing and OPEC are letting true market demands drive prices down. With the lower prices new members of Congress will focus on other issues in place of the 4 buck gas that have plagued USA for last number of years.

I'm watching "buying the Bayou" and im wondering how a young newly married couple with a baby has a budget of $300-400k to spend on a house when only the husband works. Maybe I've been out of the housing game a long time since I don't have a mortgage and haven't been keeping up with house prices, but people younger than me don't seem to bat an eye at 300-400k and that would give me a stroke! And I probably have the credit score and minimal debt the banks want and yet id never dream of borrowing that much money for a mortgage!

I don't know that I could disagree. Wonder how long people think this $2/gallon gas is going to last.
