It is a daily concern for me. Since we had 5 of our 8 acres of cedar mulched, there are endless places for them to hide. Surprisingly we have not seen a single snake on our place. It is even more surprising considering the number of bunnies we have on the property. I almost bought some snake boots and gaitors but couldn't decide on which ones to get. I suspect it will be a purchase I have to make eventually.
