Tractor
Kioti DK50SE w/ loader and Woods 90x backhoe, Allis Chalmers C with front snowplow
I have an Allis C it runs good still pulls good, it has new starter, freshly rebuilt magneto, new tires all within 4 years, new wheels, the metal is in good condition though it needs repainted, it has front mounted snow blade with hydraulic ram in the rear for lift I'm in northern WI and use it for plowing the driveway and dragging out trees for firewood. What would you guys say I could get for it if I were to sell it? I'm thinking about buying a new 4x4 compact tractor with a loader and 3 point, if I get one of these I will have no use for the Allis anymore and don't have room to store it.

unfortunately, prices for the letter series red and orange tractors, plus demand, can be low. I have seen WD go for 700-800$ in good running order... perhaps 1500$ on a good day, unless your region is hungry for them..

Ya well for that money I would keep it around for sentimental value, my grandpa bought it for 500 bucks in 1990 when he retired for plowing snow and cutting firewood, it's still a sound machine but I would have to get more than 800 to part with it, especially since 2 rear loaded tires and 1 front and rims plus other work we put into it are worth more than that. Maybe I will keep it and find room to do a restoration type project

Saw an Allis C, w/ 5' Woods belly mower sell yesterday at a local consignment sale for $850. Engine was completely rebuilt last year, according to the seller. Fired right up, and purred like a kitten. Was a little rough cosmetically... Must have been between a rock and a hard spot... He let it sell.

yep.. virtually impossible to get out of them what you put in them.

sad case of facts.

you can have 2 1200$ (base value of the machine )tractors.. one that is setting on 1000$ of new tires.. one on 30 year old tires.

you won't get 2200$ for the one with new tires. in fact.. you will be lucky to get a few undred more!!

that's why it is so hard to restore tractors for a profit in the regular market.

you start with a 1500-2500$ 'average' machine

can put in another 2500$ in parts and services to rebuild it

350$ paint job

plus? 1000$ slave-rate labor?

and then you have 6350$ tied up in a break even setup.. if you want a lil profit over that

6850$? 7350$? yeah right

they will buy the one down the road that was for sale next to it for 2500$

ps.. I'd keep it. unless 800$ made a difference to me eating or someting..

That is the sad reality of it all Soundguy. We have an AC C that has been sitting in our shed for a long time. The engine stoped oiling, so we parked it. I just haven't had the extra time and money to put into a tractor that doesn't serve much purpose around the farm and wouldn't be worth the expense of a rebuild alone. It would be neat to have it working again though....

P.S. $350 for a paint job is definitely slave labor too!

blucoondawg,

I was asking something very similar with a D-15, but your tractor at least runs.

I was told scrap price. Since yours run, you are better off but not by much. From what I gather, a couple hundred bucks or so.

Find out what scrap is going for in your area, add a few hundred to that and then you have a starting point. That does not mean you will get that. From the responses to my post, it seems like the old tractor market is very soft.

If you can find that person looking for what you have, you might do better.

In the end, I was told by many what you've been told. If the old girl has any sentimental value, hang on to it. For the little money it will bring from selling, that restoration project down the road is a better use.

I will be interested in what you do and if it sells, what you got for it.

Hey Strum, for your C that stopped oiling, you might want to check out the tube that runs up the center of the oil filter (or is supposed to at least). Just unscrew the filter and look for a piece of 1/4" tube that runs up into the center. If you dont have one, cut a short piece and install it there. My C didnt show any oil pressure until I cut a little piece of tube and put it in there. Now it is good as new (almost anyway).
