Allis Chalmers 2 Bottom "Trip Plow"

I still have one of those two bottom Olivers. My AC WD would just pull it in hard dry gound. When I last used it, used well over 20 years ago, the coulters were missing and I didn't know how to adjust it. It plowed terribly but it plowed.
Having watched the Everything Attachments guide to how to use a bottom plow, I might be able to do a better job, these days. Thanks, Ted.

Pull the rope while moving forward and the plow will raise, unless you're in a mud hole and the plow wheel is slipping instead of rotating to raise the plow. DAMHIKT

When I was about five years old my dad was plowing the garden using a trip spring plow. I was following behind the plow picking up fish worms. Unknown to my father I had my hand on the trip spring with my thumb in the coils. When he reached the end of the row and pulled the trip rope my thumb was mashed in the trip spring.

He was able to free my thumb by dropping the shears. I did not lose my thumb but it was deformed for several years and is still wider than my left thumb, but I at least still have a thumb and the injury didn't get me out of chores. Watch your kids, they can get in trouble in an instant, I should not have been following the plow and my father had just turn forward and didn't see me get behind the plow. I did learn and do not follow plows any more

There is a cam and a dog in the mechanism on the land wheel .When you pull the cord it sets the dog which engages the cam , momentarily stopping land wheel and raising plow , in 1 second . The opposite happens when you drop in . You hit the rope , unlock the cam and you are plowing . Any input ?

Kevin did a good job of explaining. That's the way I remember the mechanism.

Pull rope to trip and go down and pull the rope to trip and come up. The term trip has nothing to do with the plow beam tripping when hitting a rock or root, as in a Ford 101 or Massey 43 or JD 145 plow. Ken Sweet

I would think you , if anybody could do a better explanation on a trip mechanism . The rope is not magic ? I have seen 10 posts on just pull the rope . And no I am not talking about the moldboards , the actual raising and lowering of the plow

I could, I just chose not to in this case. I knew someone would chime in with all the details. Ken Sweet

My little genius 2 bottom trip plow works good behind my Jeep, Farmall C and the Kioti. when the Farmall was broke down, that is when I used the Jeep.
