The hand clutch (transmission clutch) on my WD is breathing its last. It started slipping a little last spring, we took all the shims out and it helped for a little while, but now it's slipping again, and getting worse. It slips bad now even starting out with no load in 3rd or 4th gear. I know Allis is going to want a fortune for the clutch, and I was wondering if any of y'all know of a good aftermarket supplier. Antiquetractorsareus.com does not seem to have any clutches for the WD.

Also, should I replace the pressure plates and throwout bearing? When I had the clutch replaced in my old Chevelle many many years ago, we used the old pressure plates and the new clutch didn't last any time at all. I learned a lesson on that one.

Thanks for the help. I am okay with an engine but I have never messed with a clutch. But I believe there's only one way to learn how to work on something: get your hands dirty.

jb the hand clutch on a WD is a wet, multiple disc over-center type. It interrupts the transmission without disturbing PTO and hydraulic pump or power lift. It is in addition to the dry single disc engine clutch. The OP will probably have to go the AGCO for pieces, although A&I would be worth checking.

Well, I guess I blew that one. Thought it was a decent price on the parts too. Oh well...

Thanks anyway. I do have a parts tractor that has been in a building for 20+ years. The engine was removed, the block rebuilt, and has been in my tractor for the last 20 years. Do you think the clutch from the old donor tractor could be salvageable? I'd hate to go through all that work and find out the other clutch is bad too, but all I really have to lose is my time and the 18 quarts of rearend lube it takes to fill the transmission. To save a couple hundred bucks of parts, I might try it.
What do y'all think?

That depends on the time and ambition you have available compared to the dollars needed to buy new parts. If it were me, I'd be digging into the parts machine. Or pricing the new parts you need, so you can decide if used parts make sense.

Hey, WD buffs. Got an opportunity to buy a 1948 Allis Chalmers WD mint, restored, with two pieces of original equipment, a combine and another piece, I think a row buster plus original manuals. Been in the same family since bought in 1948. Got any idea of the going price for this piece? Thanks; NICO in the endless mountain region of N/E PA.

you might want to start your own thread instead of appending to the end of an older one.

get more coverage that way.

ps.. check out auction and for sale sites to get an idea for price..
