Where do I begin.....
A year and a half ago, I bought a Massey Ferguson #25 disc. It was an 8'-10" model. Last fall, I decided it needed to be a little narrower. I wanted it under legal hauling width. So. I pulled the axles, sawed off 7-1/2", re-threaded the ends, and installed with one less blade, one less spool per gang. Lo and behold. a nice 7'-6" model. New notched disc blades on the front, best of the old plain blades on the back. And now, I'm bored. It's winter still. We had 9" of snow friday/saturday. The disc needs paint. So. I dismantled it. cleaned it up, primed it, and this morning, shot it with MF red paint. Disc blades got a coat of "plow black". Nothing like sitting around watching paint dry.

That's red alright! A bit like my weekend, except my red paint was going on Pinewood Derby cars for this weekend.

Lookin' good, like all of your other projects. When will your "junk" museum be open to the public?

I like the red floor..........looks like it has seen some red before. I am glad someone is saving this stuff. Do you use rattle cans to paint with and if so what brand holds up the best??

That disk looks well made! What type of bearings does it have? Can't wait to see the 'after' picture.

I like the RED. I am getting ready to do BLUE on my tractor in the shop. I bought a $3 plastic 2mil dropcloth as to keep the paint overspray off the floor. I am actually using a heavy 500 deg Old Ford Blue engine paint. I have found that it is very durable and less likely to fade.
I did some research last week and found that Rustoleum makes tractor paint in spray cans and 1 gallon size. They have Ford blue, MF red, Kubota Orange , JD green/yellow and many others. It is supposed to be a harder impletment type paint. If I hadn't already started on mine I would have used it instead. It is a bout $1 less per can.

Great lookin disc though.

Paint is OEM MF/AGCO red in quart cans. Spray bomb is to hit a few places I missed with the gun. I use an HVLP gun, but no matter if it was a siphon gun, there's places you just can't get to without the gun getting in its own way. Spray bomb is some of that TSC Alkyd enamel I detest. But don't tell anyone.

Cast iron boxings for bearings. I prefer them. Roller bearings are good when new, but once they start wearing out, they're toast. Boxings can go on and on and on even with a fair amount of wear.

Floor gets a coat of John Deere green next. I'm starting on another 2-row planter. #70 flex planter units. All the paint seals the concrete! ;)

These old #25 MF disc's are the best working 3-point disc ever built. Every brand has it's "stars" and the #25 is one of Massey's best efforts. They were in production (in one form or another) for near 40 years. They dig good for the weight, they level a seedbed better than most, I really like the ability to adjust gang angles on the fly, and they hold up really well. They're a throw back to the Massey Harris company much like MF plows.

The museum is open weekends. Tours start at 6AM. Bring work cloths. It's an interactive museum ;)

FWJ: you've inspired me again. I have two discs that need work: the 7 ft Ferguson 60BO-21 tandem and the 6 ft Towner offset. Hope to get to these next month.

Like a kid on Christmas Day! I'm taking a few vacation days right now. Normally that'd mean slowly getting started and taking things at a casual pace.

NOPE!

I rolled out at the normal 4:15AM, saw the Mrs. off to work, then hit the shop. The MF#25 disc is done! It'll sit for a day or 2 so paint can cure.

Now for some breakfast. Then in a couple hours, head north to Franklin Indiana to pick up the NEXT project. (a couple #70 Deere flex planter units)
