I was set to drive out and pick up a Bush Hog RTC48 tiller for my Kubota BX25 price for tiller is $1595 + 6% sales tax. This morning I talked to a local Kubota dealer and he priced me $1799 + 6% sales tax for a Kubota B52-C tiller, I have searched but find nothing on the Kubota tiller online, the Kubota dealer claims the Kubota B52-C is a heavy duty tiller better suited for the Kubota BX25 tractor, I am also looking at a CountyLine TG-48-YK tiller from tractor supply company.
From what I have read on here, the slip clutch is better then shear bolt, the Kubota has the shear bolt, Bush Hog & CountyLine have slip clutch.
Specs are

Bush Hog Kubota CountyLine

width 48" 48" 48"
flanges 5 6 6
blades 20-C type 32-C type 36 L-tines
depth 6" 6" 6"
offset center adjustable adjustable
driveline slip clutch bolt slip clutch
weight 335 lbs 420 lbs no data

price $1595 $1799 $1549

Seems the more info I gain, the more undecided I become, I am hoping some of you guys with more experience can steer me in the right direction, naturally the dealers tend to up-sell their brands, I am sure I can get honest opinions on here, though price is a factor, reputation and quality are the most important factors for me.
thanks

Kubota recently developed a partnership on implements with Land Pride, so I'm betting the Kubota B-52C tiller is an older model. Current Kubota tiller models (built by Land Pride) are RTR10, RTA10, RTA15, etc... Earlier Kubota tillers are not junk, but the new ones have slip clutches, as well. One thing is that current LP tillers are expensive. The $1595 price you have received is reasonable from what I see. I think for the same cost, you can get a Howard Rotovator, which seems to be about the best out there. I was just quoted $1700 for a tiller for my BX.

There are a few things that I see that stand out. Fist are the blades. The more the better. If you have 6 blades per flange you will have a much smoother running tiller. Each blade will take a smaller bite and work better.

Next is the type of blade. L tines work the best IMHO. They give you a level surface under the tilled ground. They also take more HP to run.

I also think a slip clutch is well worth it. I would never want a tiller without one... A sheer bolt is not a great option for tilling....

With that info, you only have one choice from the ones you listed above....

NMU98, are you saying the CountyLine tiller with 36 L-tines and slip clutch $1549.00 from Tractor Supply ? I think I agree.

I am not familiar with the countryline model, but by the specs you listed, I would be buying that one. I know that many people on here like the KK II tillers and it seems that most are gear drive instead of chain drive.

I think your best bet out of the three would be the TSC tiller.....

I recently bought a Land Pride RTR0550 tiller for my B2920 tractor. It came with a shear bolt. We went through about a dozen shear bolts before I called the dealer up and asked about a slip clutch. Seems that this tiller can come in EITHER a shear bolt head or a slip clutch head. I paid for the parts to upgrade the tiller to the slip clutch head, and the dealership donated the time to ensure that this customer was happy.

I just used the slip clutch the other day and it seems much better. No more breaking bolts.

I like my Land Pride Tiller. Its a reversing model and I really like that. It chews up the dirt to a very fine soil grade. I believe it cost me $1800 for the tiller and another $180 for the slip clutch upgrade.

Hope that helps.

Thats great information, I am also unfamiliar with CountyLine brand fron Tractor Supply but I will research it a bit more along with the last two mentioned, Land Pride and King Kutter. As I said from the start, the more information I get, the more confused I become.

Thanks again for all your opinions

Greg,
The Tractor Supply manager up the street will often take 10% off, if I ask. He doesn't always say yes, but if it's a big ticket item I always track him down and ask. What's to lose?
Good luck and tell us if the Eagle has landed a tiller.

I was at a local TSC the other day and there was an LP and Countrytime tiller side by side. From what I could tell they were identical. I would guess they are just rebranded LP tillers.
